We are very excited to have been chosen to lead the Education and School trips for Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Cambridgeshire.
The trips typically run from 10am-2pm. We offer a variety of activities, and we can design a bespoke trip for your school based on the main aims for the trip, whether this is to link to a current topic or the National Curriculum or for a Forest School/Bushcraft experience. We are happy to tailor design the day based on your hopes.
Please send us an email with your enquiry. Our registration form can also be found below.
We will take the children into the woods on a bug hunt! Equipped with ID charts and magnify glasses.
We will see what insects we can find, whether we can identify them, and we will inspect them closely with our magnify glasses.
We can have a discussion around what habitats they were found in and what we think this tells us about them.
We will also be able to take sweeper insect nets over to the meadow (season dependent) to see if we can find any more insects in the long grasses and wildflowers
We will have access to the wonderful pond dipping platform at Hinchingbrooke where we will show the children how to use pond dipping nets, trays and ID charts.
The children will have the opportunity to explore the pond with their nets to see what they can find. We will be able to try to identify their finds and learn about what lives in the pond!
We can teach the children a variety of knots and how to put ropes up.
We will have a selection of ropes to explore, learn to put up a rope swing , high and low rope, learn to make a rope ladder, play in hammocks, and play some games!
The children can have a go at using a fire striker, explore natural tinder’s and different ways to lay a fire, they will also be set a challenge in small groups to light their own fires and cook their own campfire snack!
Depending on their age and ability we may also be able to introduce them to the art of whittling using shave horse and draw knife or offer the opportunity to make a craft such as a bow and arrow.
We will have a giant treasure hunt using the skill of orienteering, map reading and the use of a compass!
We will make up teams to see who can win the den building challenge!
We will explore various ways to make a den, using natural resources vs using tarpualins.
We will also have some team challenges which will require teamwork and communication to beat the clock!
Where better to read or tell a story then under the most magnificent Oak tree or under a tarpaulin with the pitter patter of rain drops above?
We can also read books, write poetry, and get creative with mud playdoh! Children’s vocabulary is known to be richer outdoors, why not choose your favourite tree, make a list of adjectives, and together create a wonderful poem!
If you let us know your Literacy objectives, we can plan the right activities for you.
