Fireflies Forest school is based at Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Huntingdon Cambridgeshire.
We feel passionate that children should be immersed in the outdoors and connect with nature as much as possible from a young age, and we believe the forest school ethos is just a perfect way to do this. The value of the great outdoors and connecting with nature should not be underestimated, and is instrumental for a child's development and for positive mental health. Amongst many other benefits such as positive self esteem, confidence, independence, resilience, the ability to risk take and assess risk and to be connected to world around them.
We run weekly forest school sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, called Twiglets, alternative provision sessions, holiday camps in the school holidays, Birthday parties, small group sessions for children who have additional needs or struggle in big groups and also can design bespoke team building and corporate days! We have also had our first adults only session, which was very popular and successful so we will be trying to make this a monthly occurrence!
Whilst our forest school immerses your little ones in nature, we provide a welcoming space in the woodland for parents to come together and offer each other support. The staff all have a variety of experience in Forest School, Education, Mental Health and SEND. We pride ourselves in the support we give new parents and our inboxes are always open! We love to encourage parents to take their little ones outdoors not just for the well being and nature connection of the children, but this time out in nature for the parents is also incredibly important. We have always said our Twiglets group is just as much for the parents as it is the children! if you need any support or ideas of how to take your childs learning outdoors please just ask. We will also regularly share ideas with you on our facebook page too.
Additional to forest school training Jessica and Sonia both have a wealth of experience working with children and young adults with Autism, various mental health conditions and challenging behaviour. We welcome children with additional needs to all of our sessions, however if you feel your child may cope better in a smaller session we will also run sessions of small groups. We can also offer 1:1 sessions and have many programmes available as an alternative provision to mainstream or SEN schools.
